Whenever visiting my home country, South Korea, I see people on the streetin self-adoration with extravagant products and luxury items to express the apparentsocial status. This social phenomenon settles down all over the place, and Idiscover myself chasing this social trend. People fall prey to competitivematerialism in the contemporary scene. People’s true self is camouflaged withmasks by good-looking materials. I pondered this materialistic self-adoration. Therefore,I focused on painting both formalistically and contextuallyin a fashion that registers the themes of fashion, social status, externalevaluation and degenerated materialism.
