Re_PIZZA Zero food waste, only great tastes

Xintiandi – the most famous food hub in Shanghai – wanted to lead by example with a ‘Food Sustainability’ campaign. But we discovered that food waste was a primary issue and that restaurants dispose of up to 84% of unused ingredients. So we decided to address this serious issue with an entertaining and yummy solution.

Together with Xintiandi Shanghai’s restaurants, we create the Re_PIZZA project, a gastronomic experience that turned potential food waste into great tastes. We gathered unused ingredients and created over 200 types of Re_PIZZAs.

Over a few days at Xintiandi Shanghai’s Christmas fair, we reused 60kgs of unused ingredients, fed 1,500 people at the event and donated proceeds to The Global Food Network to feed 15,000 people.

We created a truly sustainable solution that directly reduced food waste from 84% to 43% and reminded over 200 million (via on-ground & online impressions) about food waste and sustainability.
