Human Dignity, Civil Rights Poster

Jorge Martinez and Garrett Munk: Civil Rights Poster

Description:

We wanted to take an approach on the rights of different people. Many people in this world are discriminated because of their sex, race or anything else that might make them look different from other people. The poster we have made is to show people that everyone is equal and made in God's image no matter what they look like. At first we started to sketch famous people who represented the Civil Rights movement. Then we moved on to an idea which where a bunch of people of different ethnicities come together to form a group that show how proud they are to be who they are. Then we would add a famous quote from someone that has inspired these people to do what they are doing in the photo.

Inspiration:

Our inspiration was mostly derived from Unsplashed and a minimal of Behance. We started by searching for some photos of people who represented the Civil Rights Movement, then we started to look for photos of people protesting for equal rights. We liked the idea of a person speaking out about equal rights just like numerous example we saw.

Design Process and Digital Comps:

We sketched a lot of famous people who represented the equal rights movement. We looked at inequalities around the world and just started sketching around that. Then we looked at people speaking out and took inspiration from that in our sketches. At first we struggled at getting our plan to work because we didn't have a full idea of what we going to do.
FINAL POSTER:
The poster below is our final product piece on Human Dignity. We loved this design of a person with a blank face shouting for equality because it shows that there is no-one person controlling everyone and that everyone works together. We chose to use a quote from Martin Luther King Jr, a civil rights movement leader who fought for rights for everyone. Martin Luther King is a great example in our poster because he represents our topic. This poster shows Human Dignity because it shows people the everyone on Earth was created equal and should be treated equal, so that the world can be a better place.
