Once upon a time there was a parrot named Henry. Henry lived in a pet shop. He has lived there for a long time. And throughout his years there, he has seen countless dogs, cats and even mice leave with their new family. As the store emptied out, he started to feel lonely.  Nobody wanted to adopt him. But one day, a miracle happened. A large, muscular man came to the pet shop and took Henry home. He might not have been the friendliest looking owner, but it was better than nothing. That day he thought he could finally be happy and was chirping with joy. But the joy soon turned to fear.
The man was an abusive man.  He was always angry, drinking and using his fist. The man would often shake and rattle the cage, laughing as the fragile bird was being tossed around in the cage. Whenever Henry made any noise, the man would threaten to pluck his feathers off. But even when Henry stayed silent, the evil man would shout and yell at Henry day after day. Henry would stay awake every night in fear of what the monster might do to him if he closed his eyes. Henry figured out why the man’s home had a rotten stench and was trembling with the thought of maybe never escaping this horrible dream.
Thankfully, after weeks of torture, the man was fed up with Henry and sold the parrot to the lady from the dress shop. She was a middle aged lady. She had bright pink hair, a luminescent yellow dress and a sky blue hat. When Henry first saw her, he was enchanted by her large smile. The nightmares were finally over, he thought. The lady played with the parrot everyday and while it was fun for the first few days, the parrot was getting tired. He was tired of the amount of fluffy pet clothes he had to change into every hour. Tired of being tie dyed a different color everyday. Tired of the giant plates of cake he had to finish before actually getting bird food and most of all, tired of her devious rainbow cat that kept trying to “cuddle” with Henry whenever the lady wasn't looking. Once again fearing for his life, Henry was so thankful when he was once again sold. This time, to an old man across the street.
The old man was not as hyper or energetic as the middle age lady was. The parrot was so happy he finally got to relax. And that's all he did the first day in the old man’s home. Since the old man did not play with Henry much, he just sat in his cage, with his wings tucked in and slept.  He did the same thing the next day. And the day after that. Eventually Henry’s stomach growled, begging for food. He checked his food dish and to his surprise, there were no food or water left. Had the old man forgot to refill his dish? Indeed! Just as Henry had done since he’s been adopted, all the old man did, day after day, was sleep. When the old man got up to grab the mail, Henry would chirp loudly, hopping the the old man would hear, but the old man just went right back to bed, ignoring the bird’s cry for help. For days the parrot sat in his locked cage, starving and thirsty. Overtime, Henry’s cage got dustier and dustier. He noticed that his cage has been pushed behind stacks of books, newspaper and clothing. The old man couldn't even see him at this point. The parrot finally realised that the old man had forgotten about Henry all together.
When the old man did finally come across the cage, the parrot was on the verge of death from the lack of food and water. The old man returned Henry back to the pet store, where he was giving his first taste of food in weeks. After regaining energy, Henry was put back into the cage he had originally started from. The old man left the store, leaving the bird behind. But Henry was fine with it. He didn't mind the pet store as much now. At least he didn't get yelled at, dressed up or forgotten in the pet store. Maybe staying a little longer wouldn't hurt. The End.
