MINI Cooper S Vinyl Car Wrap & Packaging design
This project is part of my UAL level 3 graphic design course at Chichester College. The units covered were 2D and 3D problems solving.
Task 1. Design the vinyl wrapping for a MINI Cooper S for the Chichester College motorsport team, taking into consideration and adhering to all of the regulations and requirements.
Task 2. Apply the design onto a 3D model to visualise the outcome.
Task 3. Design and create a net template for the product packaging for the model.
(note) We were given the option to design two seperate vinyl wrap designs. One suitable for the Chichester College motorsport team and the other for the model/packaging.
Chichester College Motorsport Team's Design
For the Chichester College motorsport design, I wanted to create a design which reflects the curves and contours of the MINI Cooper S by emphasising the curved bonnet around the headlights, also following the contours of the wheel arches. My design was also inspired by the college's logo, using a similar colour palette and a curve through the centre.
Model & Product Packaging Design
This design was influenced by the classic American cars which were pinstriped with hot rod flames. I imitated the look of glowing hot metal on the panels to complement the flame elements. I felt this would add an exciting twist to the MINI and would appeal to a younger audience and collectors.
In the early stages of the project we were unsure of which logos, sponsors, decals were to be included, so I also created a custom logo for the motorsport team as an extra which I included in this design but later removed, just so I could include a decal on the car to make it more authentic.
To visualise my design, I first developed a series of paper and card models from net templates. I took it a step further and constructed a model using a MINI Cooper S model kit, which I hand painted using acrylic paint.
