Project 3 of the course asked us to look at creating type forms. Using found objects we were to create our own letterforms.
These letterfroms were created with ice floating in a glass of red coloured drink. Even though the letterfroms are hard and cold  their translucency in combination with the red gives an almost organic feel.
One of the decorative fonts I was looking at was Chick. It seemd to lend itself perfectly to the idea of letters made of cake.
The most ambitious idea was to create a set of speciman jar letters to symbolise how the letterfrom has been studied and analysed.
I started by creating wire skeletons and then repeatedly dipped them in molten wax, that I had coloured to resemeble internall anatomy. Each letter took many dips to create the type of look I wanted to achieve. Given more time I would have tried  embedding objects to create more interest in form. I would have probably used more than one shade of wax to give a more convincing finish.
These letters were created by constructing a wire fram and wrapping in a fine gossamer type material.
Before photgraphing the ice letters in liquid I created a more traditional form, on cold hard concrete.
