Abstraction is my inquiry into the nature of life. The influences of poetry and mysticism lead me to inquire what mans place is in the universe. Like the Russian painter, Kandinsky (1866-1944), I am fascinated by the emotional power of music. I use color, paint and movement as tools of expression. Early on, I realized that fluid acrylic paint was the best medium to explore a layering process that incorporates texture, color and writing on canvas.
Using architecture, land, sky and the cosmos as points of departure, I invent forms and shapes to convey energy and movement. Luminous color is integral to my abstract compositions. Musical pulses, sounds and rhythms are reflected in contrasting color choices. My painting process includes a sequence of gestures that explore themes of energy, forces of nature and the mysterious inner life of man. I travel often to gain new resources and inspiration from different cultures.I continually search for new ways to convey physical & spiritual sensations in paint.
My recent abstract series uses a language of color and movement as a base to build translucent passages of paint contrasted with surface texture. I create work in a range of sizes from intimate to large-scale public art murals. I want the observer to relate to these visual song-poems as joyous expressions of life.
