Completed in 2008, Visual Notes on Synesthesia was a temporary screenprinted installation. The work inhabited a 10' x 10' space and consisted of printed cardstock panels, silkscreened yardage and upholstery as well as more traditional editioned works on paper.
Those who are affected bysynaesthesia have one sensory experience accompanied by the perception of asecond, for example they have the capacity to taste colors and visuallyexperience sounds. Perhaps even more incredible than this, is the fact that these veryindividualized experiences can actually be grouped into a set of"constants"; certain geometric shapes, repeats, and line formationswhich are repeatedly identified in studies on those affected. These constantsform what Elizabeth refers to as the "visual language" ofsynaesthesia, from which she draws the designs for this installed space.
