Kachin Women's Association Thailand
"Since its formation in 1999 by several Kachin women who saw a need for assistance among the people fleeing their homes due to the conflict in Burma, KWAT has been active in Thailand and on the China-Burma border for the past 15 years."
As a fundraising intern for Kachin Women’s Association Thailand (KWAT), I interviewed internally displaced Kachin women to report on their much-needed programs. Through additional research, my team learned that Reproductive Health Training programs at Ja Reng Yang clinics in Southern Kachin State were threatened by Myanmar military violence. In response, our rewritten 2007-2013 KWAT activity report stressed the impact of the 2011 ceasefire violation and ongoing resource extraction on women’s health. This report, coupled with my graphical redesign of the KWAT online market, has helped expand KWAT’s Income Generation program and direct international aid into vital community safety programs.
