The Poisonwood Bible

The Poisonwood Bible is about a missionary family uprooting their life in America and moving to Congo, Africa. They face culture shock, an overbearing father/husband figure, loss of faith (in their father/husband, God, and country), and guilt.
I chose to go with a very subdued, simple theme, visually emphasizing a moment in the book that deals with the death of a pet parrot, paralleling Congo's liberation, and all of the repercussions. The book deals largely with religion, and loss of religion, and the overshadowing of the local culture's beliefs, which I wanted to express in the layout and imagery.
