i3 is a branch of The Synopsys Silicon Valley Science & Technology Outreach Foundation, and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports teachers and students developing science projects at K-12 public and private non-profit schools in California and select schools affiliated with regional offices of Synopsys, Inc. The logo and website were built on the premise of "making science fun." From the wacky professor of the logo to the iconic imagery of children discovering the world around them, the visual results are spot on.
