Tips for Efficient Packing

Jerry Marzullo works as a partner with Puchalski Goodloe Marzullo, LLP, a Berwyn, Illinois-based law firm dedicated to representing Illnois’ public safety employees. Aside from his work in Berwyn, Jerry Marzullo likes to travel.

Poor packing practices can quickly ruin an otherwise great trip. Here are three tips to ensure you remember everything and have enough room to pack it.

1. Make a checklist. A packing checklist is a good way to ensure you do not forget something crucial. Write everything you want to take and break it down into categories like clothing, medication, travel documents, and so on.

2. Plan on doing laundry. Especially on longer trips, it is not practical to bring a new outfit for every day. Instead, pack light and plan on washing your clothes on the go. If your accommodations do not offer laundry service, visit a local self-service laundry, which may offer a brief glimpse into the real lives of locals, something tourists often miss.

3. Utilize packing cubes. Packing cubes make it easy to separate and organize clothing by type. It will save space, and you will spend less time on the road rummaging through your luggage for that one shirt you want, since you know it will be in the same cube as your other shirts.
