Annunciation - In Christian tradition, the Annunciation is the event when the archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary to give her the happy (and extremely unexpected) news of the impending birth of the Messiah.
Apsara - Hindu and Buddhist mythologies depict the apsara as ethereal spirits of cloud and water, who are also gifted dancers; Indian legends situate them as the amazing dancers of Lord Indra's court. 
Fallen Angel - A popular theme in literature revolves around fallen angels falling (further!) for the charms of mortal women.
In the Bible, the birth of the Messiah was announced by angels, who appeared to shepherds in the fields.
Tennin - The tennin of Japanese Buddhism have feathered wings, and can fl y; they are often depicted with lotus blossoms, which symbolise enlightenment. 
Valkyrie - According to Nordic myths, the formidable, beautiful valkyrie carry the souls of fallen heroes to Valhalla, Odin's great hall of slain warriors.
Kinnari - The graceful kinnari of Southeast Asia, is said to be half woman, half bird. 
Milton's epic Paradise Lost revolves around Lucifer's fateful fall from Heaven. Here, Lucifer is depicted losing the battle against the heavenly hosts.
