Lighting Portfolio

I am working with an artist named Atticus Adams to create light fixtures from some of his wire mesh sculptures for permanent installations.   Please visit his website to see more examples of his sculpture work.
The "Clouds and Silver Linings" are the main focus of my research and consulting with Atticus Adams.  He wishes to hide the electrical source, as well as make the entire sculpture glow rather than being able to see a lamp through the wire mesh.  My work is to look into some options for him including conductive wiring, and light source options.
This is an example of what the sculptures look like lit up.  This is Kiawah, from the previous picture with a simple CFL lamp inside.
Nittany Lights 2012

My group at the workshop wanted to focus on contrasting the man made sculptures in our space with the natural elements of the garden.  We did this, according to my suggestion, by using colored light for all of the sculptures and natural white light on the plants and trees.

This is the final poster submission my group presented for a lighting design competition "Design with Light" 2013 with IES Philadelphia.  Our design concept  was focused on nature and industrial elements in the same space, with nature overcoming.
This is the register and cafe area of the project.  It features light grazing the reclaimed wood counter to make it a focal point as well as to direct people to the area where they can pay.  The fixtures above the bar are a custom fixture design.  The idea is that the green cracks are like the veins of nature sprouting from the bottom of the man made shape and growing through the fixture, slowly taking it over.
This photograph, like all of the other photos given to teams in the project materials were taken during the day.  However, the lighting design that we focused on was for the space at night, so all of the photographs had to be photoshoped to look like they were taken at night, and then light was added back into the space.  This is one example of a space where I changed the photo from day to night and then added in strips of light to give a visual idea of our design plan.  I photoshoped every final photograph that was submitted for the project to change them to a night view.
In this space, accent lighting was added to the two vertical posts at the center and spilling onto the rounded window.  This was simply to give some visual interest to the space, as well as draw the eye upward towards the skylights.  The skylights have linear strips to give them a faint glow.  This highlights the contrast between the highly industrial ceiling and the stars outside.
Behind the canvas canopy, a box filled with color changing LED's can be used to paint an array of colors mimicking the Aurora Borealis.  This feature was added as a custom feature for events held in the space.
