When I was approached in July and asked if I was interested in doing an album cover + peripheral branding design work for a male singer of ‘some repute…… I assumed that it was for some half talented wannabe doing the pub circuits.
Still - Nothing ventured, nothing gained (as they say) so I enquired further.
It transpired that the aforementioned ‘male recording artist’ was none other than Elton John (Sir).
His new album ‘DIAMONDS’ was to be released in November 2017 and since I specialise in 3D CGI diamonds, and glitzy stuff in general I was chosen without any competition to execute the work. It was a wonderful commission to get immersed in.
The brief was simple - Take Elton’s logo and make it diamond ‘encrusted. Two versions, one with ‘clasps’ for HiRes printing such as the 12” Vinyl cover, and an ‘unclasped’ version for use at smaller sizes…. which was especially important for the online music streaming catalogues.
The project was a big one overall since it was a culmination of Elton’s 50 years contribution, and in total, the entire product comprised the CDs, LPs AND a limited edition collector’s boxed set, and it was released Friday, November 10th 2017
