For this project I wanted to use my ski experience to find a good challenge. I saw on Avalanches the worst problem of many skiers today. For this, I wanted to try to define a new DNA for the avalanche victim detector.
The DVA (detection victime avalanche) is a receiver and a transmitter to find the avalanche’s victim. The actual product is efficient to find a victim. But it has never been changed for years. Also the current product is not very intuitive and need to be practiced a lot to understand the methodology of the research. My goal is to find a solution to create a product more accessible and more intuitive to save maximum of time.
For this project I tried to create a sporty and intuitive product. I chose to improve my 3D skills by using the software Rhino. Also I wanted to see the product in its real size using 3D priting. It was very interesting to use this process to push this project on the best way.
Scenario
Peter and Tim are two friends who decided to go in the mountain to ride the powder but the 2 friends have been caught in an avalanche. By chance a ski instructor saw the accident and started the research. I tried to find the best insight to create a new scenario around the DVA product.
This DVA keeps the basic functionalities of the other product. My device is composed by 2 objects: a watch and a chest belt to simplify its use and the safety of the rescuer. With the watch, the rescuer has its hand free to use easily all the other tools such as the shovel and the probe. Also with the watch, he can have every moutain functionalities such as the altimeter, the compas and the GPS point.
I created this product as a smart watch dedicated for freeride. To gather every electronic tools of a freerider in one (compass, altimeter, DVA, GPS).

I tried to increase the experience of the product with an app. With this app you can find information about weather, avalanche risk and also find some tutorials to improve your skills and train yourself with this familly of products.
