At Crooked as Another, we strive to create modern products that respect the past. Our philosophy combines a design-minded approach with a deep commitment to crafting items by hand. We go to great lengths not to overdesign our products. We carefully consider an items intended use, and we focus on how that can best be served without adding more to it than necessary. This, to us, is the essence of good design and craft.
Whilst spending time on the moors in different seasons and observing the varying changes in emotions that the landscape evokes, inspiration was taken from the stormy bleakness of winter to the picnic idyll of a secluded valley, where enjoyment is found equally in each. The initial range from Crooked As Another has been developed through the autumn and winter of 2013 and as so reflects the nature of the Northern English landscape. The inspiring starting point has been Bothies of the moors. The uncomplicated formal composition of the pieces reflects the strong stone structures found in these harsh environments. The uncompromising conditions these weathered places of shelter have endured are being reflected in the angled forms of the bags and accessories. Its also nice to think that some of the techniques used in the making of the pieces could indeed once have been used in such shelters, evoking romantic ideology of winter nights spend sewing and crafting essential possessions that are not only for practicality but beautiful items that give joy when used everyday.

All the materials used have been carefully sourced for there quality and aesthetic, each reflecting the honest simplicity that originate from the roots of the projects; the finest waxy pull-up top-grain leather from Italy, waxed linen thread and bespoke brass hardware are each as under complicated and natural as we could find. Minimal paneling, strong seams, and asymmetrical forms are the signatures of the products and ensure Crooked's pieces will last the distance.
Crooked pieces are created using a unique combination of modern technology and traditional crafting techniques. To bring these traditional methods into 2014 and to ensure the highest level of consistency each sewn hole is individually cut, each logo is etched and each crease scribed using the latest laser techniques. Concepts created on paper are developed in the studio, digitally refined and laser cut. Panels are then hand-stitched before custom-made brass hardware is handset. Each piece is a true labor of love taking up to 3 days to craft but they wouldn't want any other way. Every item is treated individually with care, the whole process is as far removed from mass manufacturing as possible.
