The Power of Transformation

Hong Kong is one of the most complex societies I have ever lived in, it’ a big multicultural mix. But the most impressive part of it is even though people are so different, the work and function in harmony. Efficiency is never overlooked here.
In the same time, because of how heavily populated it is, one mistake can make a difference and one good choice can also make a difference. If everybody woke up in the morning and decided to do something good, this affects everyone, no matter how close or far. It’s like a chain reaction where one action influences others in the same direction as it goes.
In terms on sculpture, Hong Kong is kinetic, organic and a very complex form. It runs like clockwork and is very efficient not only in term of energy use, but also in terms of design and concept.

Designing Movement is not an easy thing to do. Choosing between hundreds of options makes the design choice that much harder to make. Speed, direction, flow and change of form has to be considered. While paying attention to movement as a design principle, the decision was made to create character and style. CLP is a big company, very stable and also elegant in how they run their business. If CLP was a person it would be very graceful, elegant, strong yet very easy on the eyes.
Mechanics of movement:
The sculpture uses a 4 cylinder crank shaft design as the main armature. It moves on both axis X & Y. It give stability to the object. In the same time a low speed motor is used to run the whole thing. It does about 2 rotations every second. In other words the sculpture takes 30 seconds to complete one round. As a set of three they move sepertatly in different phases of the rotation.
