Tras la invitación a artistas, arquitectos y diseñadores locales a participar en la reinterpretaición de una de las tradiciones más bonitas de nuestro país, siguió la designación de un espacio: el vestíbulo y las escaleras del centro cultural UCO en el Centro Histórico.

Decidimos retomar de los altares de muertos la tradicional flor de cempazuchitl cómo único elemento de nuestra instalación emulando una ola que baja por las escaleras invadiendo todo y salpicando flores hasta la fachada del edificio, una ola inevitable cómo la muerte. En los peraltes de la escalera la frase “Desde el momento en el que naces comienzas a morir, todos los días son días de muertos” nos recuerda la impermanencia de las cosas, la fragilidad de la vida y a su vez, La visión alegre y peculiar de la muerte para los mexicanos a través de una invasión de flor y de color.

Local artists, architects and designers were invited to participate in the reinterpretation of one of the most beautiful traditions of our country: “The day of the Dead”. Beautiful spaces of the city were designated to each artist; our installation took place in the lobby and stairs of UCO cultural center located in the Historic Center of Querétaro.

We decided to take the most outstanding element from the traditional altars and use it as our only resource for the installation: the cempazuchitl flower. The installation tried to emulate a floral-wave going down the stairs invading the gallery and splashing the principal facade of the building. We wrote along the stairs the phrase “From the moment you are born you start to die, every day is the day of the dead”, reminding us of the impermanence of things and the fragility of life. The installation evoked a cheerful and quirky vision of death for Mexicans through an invasion of flowers and color.
