Roerich Museum Identity

Branding
New graphic identity concept for the Roerich Museum in Moscow commissioned
by the Museum's development department.

A new mark embodies the values of the Roerich's cultural centre while serving
as a starting point for the Museum's contemporary approach. The use of symbolism was very important for Nicholas Roerich. The research process helped to uncover layered historical and cultural meaning and reflect it in the logo. In it's centre lies the union of three discs representing art, science, and religion; below is the hidden M for Moscow in the Corona Mundi ("Crown of the World"). The shapes solemnly come together in the circle of eternity to create a bold modern mark.

Particular attention was devoted to the use of colour as a part of the new graphic language. The collection of artworks was analyzed and a set of colours was selected as an additional palette to the primary red, white and black. Combined with contrasting typography they create a base for the vibrant graphic identity.
