When Giants Were (2017)
Monotype, Ink, Gouache on Fabriano Rosapina
I believe trees are the true wonders of our world. They are the ones who has seen us learn, who has seen us change, who has seen us grow. They are the ones who give us breath, who give us shade, who give us sanctuary.
This series of illustrations explores the relationship between man and tree.
Not how it is now, but how it used to be.
Maybe our admiration for each other was fictional, as tall as tales,
maybe it was true.
However, now we can only wonder about
when these giants were
admired,
worshipped
and protected.
(This series was created for an exhibition called Tall Tales, at Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography.)
This piece is also a runner-up in Creative Quarterly 50's Professional Illustration Category! It will feature on CQ's online gallery in 2018.
