Our project was to design a logo for the barbershop quartet group The Upstate Harmonizers. I went through alot of sketches before coming to a few final logos.At first I experimented with traditional “barbershop quartet” imagery like thebarber pole, but I found images like that were not working for what I wanted toconvey. The ideas I wanted to convey above all else were 1. Harmonization, 2.Music, and 3. Four (for the quartet). I also wanted to show that sophisticationand professionalism of the group, because as Kelly mentioned, people don’toften think of barbershop quartets in a serious and competitively musical sensebecause there’s a different, more humorous image of them in pop culture. TheUpstate Harmonizers take their music competitions seriously, and they need alogo to match that level of prestige. I ended up with a few designs that Ibelieve all achieve what I wanted to from the beginning.
