Design of TOOCO: Puzzle Bird Game

TOOCO: Puzzle Bird Game UI UX design
Tuco is a game for kids and adults.

In this project I was totally in charge of all visual aspects: Interface Design, Character Design, and Animation, store assets creation including the promotional video. Apart from that, I've got an amazing opportunity to participate in writing the game story.
How might we:

- how to create a light and fun experience for the users
- help users to understand the mechanic of the game
- make the application appealing for the audience.

Our target audience was male and female, aged from 20 to 45, who are interested in playing catchy games.
From the results of interviews with the target audience, I decided that I need to approach the process by iterations.  Firstly creating the prototype and the validating and improving with the users.
First iteration and first design approach

Final designs and several iterations before it
The mechanics of the game are unique and very interesting. Interesting that it is quite old - it was invented by the mathematician Leibniz. It consists in the fact that there are chips on the board. Jumping over one another, the chip that was jumped over should disappear. And it is necessary to calculate the move so that the last piece always remains in the center of the board.

This is how the idea of small birds was born. The target of the last bird is to land in the nest in the center of the board.

But what is the global goal of the game?

And the global goal is to find out who is hidden in the egg. Each time the user advances in the game, more and more someone named Tooco appears from the egg. This is an incredibly beautiful peacock.
From dark to bright and colorful design
I have done various iterations with users. Starting with the dark design and removing the most intricate ideas with levels and about points of the game.

But the results showed that users quickly get tired of the game. Then I tried a lighter design and added levels. When every level is a new stage in which the adventures of the birds unfold.

The result of the light version was better. The users liked the story where birds jump on wires or clotheslines. But the poll showed that they lack color, brightness, and effects.

Thus, after two more iterations, the final design was closed. A bright, colorful game with animations as well as a living story across the levels and with an unknown character in the egg.
