Finding FRida | Personal Project
-
Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is one of the most well regarded female artists of all time. Inspired by Mexican pop culture, she explored questions of identity, gender, class and race in Mexican society through self portraiture.
The Finding Frida project aims to explore various cultures through a series of Frida Kahlo portraits, thus finding what makes these cultures unique. The first entry, shown here, explores Frida's native Mexican culture. Mayan idols and marigold flowers (used to celebrate the deceased during Día de Muertos / Day of the Dead) were used to make up her headdress.
