ODYSSEUS - a visual development

This is the first sketch.
I came up with, after several hours of aimlessly scribbeling around.
(what a great workflow!)
Roughed out some poses to make sure he is readable in different situations.
(clearly skipped some legdays but he works)
Painted the guy some company.
Simple sillouettes helped to define their character at a distance.
Jumped into exploration, just to get an idea what I want the world to look like.
(Actually started with pencil sketches, but my roughs are to messy for the human eye)
Gave me some ideas but it felt very blend, visually.
To get a more unified look I had to restrict my shapes, the first sillouette gave me a good starting point.
With these shapes in mind I was able to create simple but very recognizeable environments.
Just added some nice split-complementary color sceme and...
voila!
Using this method i created more key visuals (Or what ever you want to call it) for different backgrounds of the story.

With a similar aproach I defined our hero further.
And finally put together some charactersheets, to show how they could move.
(if somebody is pationed enough to animate them, that is)
I strayed away quite a bit from the original sillouettes and added some memorable icons like the staff and beard but tried to respect the overall shape of the character.
The lil sheep sidekick feld natural to me and made the cyclops way more likeable:)

...so does the lil monkey.
The jewellery ads some backstory and makes the viewer question how she got a hold of it.
(nice boobs)
And some props for good mesure.
To get an idea how a movie or show might feel i did some rough storyboards and turned them into moodboards.
(through the power af greyscale!)
Colored over them for a lighting key.
I did the same for another scene aswell.
I used one of each lighting key to paint a mock up of a rendered movie.
(damn, that was fun!)
