Red Hat Wine Label

Original Watercolor rendering
This is the original stylized watercolor for Red Hat wine brand. The client brief dictated colorful elegance, with a specific western hat.

My watercolor style is rough and gestural with almost no over-washes - focusingmore on drawing and the natural textures caused by paper and water flow.

I used Windsor & Newtonwatercolors on 93 lb. heavyweight watercolor paper (9" x 12") fromthe Bee Paper Company. My brushes were watercolor rounds - synthetic #4 and#10.
 Final Wine Label
For the final wine label I made some adjustments to the watercolor art in Adobe Photoshop and at the clients request, added a symbolic hat band element and a beige lower background.

I brought the art into Adobe Illustrator for the final front label design, adding top and bottom color design elements, the Red Hat logo, specific PMS color and text for the Merlot variety.
Rear bottle label
For the rear label I created a simple left side band and top trellis vector element to complement the Red Hat Vineyards logo and wine note. I added standard and specific text, the vector location map and positioning for the UPC bar code.
Front and Back Sample Placement
Client visual of Front and back labels on a dark Merlot bottle. The rear label was designed half length and positioned higher on the bottle to make room for a translation label placed directly below it.
Fun project - and great people to work with.
