Publications are extended applications of text and image and, as such, bring to bear a tremendous number of considerations for a designer. Every publication begins as an idea: a subject or message with a function but no form. Develop your solutions through sketching digitally or in your sketchbook. Build thumb- nails, roughs, and your preliminary and final comps. You will be expected to show your progress through the stages. After your comps you will build the hi-resolution final. Design a new approach for CMYK magazine. You need to have at least 6 article titles on the front, a picture, a titles and date, price, and bar code. Place your original artwork (illustration or photography) on the cover of the magazines.

Goal: The initial step in thinking about how a publication becomes a reality is to focus on what the subject matter of the message may be. The next challenge is form and how it changes, differentiating each idea, distilling its raw content into recognizable parts, and engaging its target audience through specific colors, imagery, and typography.
