We Are What We Eat - The Exhibition

An exhibition was staged on the 8th of April at DW Workshop. Researching on storytelling techniques used in curating exhibitions helped in directing the flow in which the different sections were panned out.

Social media pages were created to garner interest and participation from the target audience. An Instagram account was made, with a video to get people to use the hashtag #whatweeatsg in their food pictures of week night dinners. From there, other categories were introduced which then helped form the collective memory of that particular meal type. 

A website was created to allow people to find out more about the project, it’s aims and who should be involved. It features posts shared by the public along side information on getting involved and lastly, the exhibition which culminates everything that was learnt through the gathering of data by the target audience. 

A Facebook event was created to let more people know about the event and for interested guests to be reminded of the event.

Starting off with the 'Dining Out’ section, where visitors could interact with the display, touching the images to hear the collective memories members of those classes have associated with those dishes. 

Next, the 'Birthday Meals’ section. Here visitors were able to see just how contrasting food memories are from one class to another through short stories shared by various individuals on their most memorable birthday meals

The final section addressed 'Week Night Dinners'. Through numerous interviews, several dishes were identified to be part of most week night dinners, regardless of class. These were showcased through a projected video, allowing for mass viewing.

Just before leaving the exhibition, visitors were encouraged to pen down their thoughts on the overall exhibition. These were then pinned up for others to read, this helped in getting visitors to reflect upon what they'd learnt after the exhibition.
