Mike Shipman's profile

Public Lands for Sale

The onslaught by our own government on our public lands has intensified under this administration and we've already seen the effect. Increased pressure to open lands for resource extraction, commercial development, and to relinquish management and control to the states has put our open space heritage at risk. The benefits, economic and personal well-being, of open space have been studied, reported on, and the data is clear. Attempting to contact elected representatives has fallen on deaf ears. As an artist and a former wildlife biologist who understands what is at stake, my remaining option is to make art that can potentially reach beyond mere rhetoric, complimenting empirical data, to reach the souls of those who are still unconvinced.
