Costume design and realisation for the character The Erl-King from Angela Carter's anthology 'The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories'. He is a maleficent half-human, half-woodland creature who entices girls into his woodland cottage, turns them into birds, and keeps them in cages. I have taken inspiration from both traditional Bavarian attire (the tale originates in Bavarian folklore) and turn of the century working men's clothing. I have used traditional tailoring techniques in his coat as well as more creative methods for building the head and surface decoration.
