Zam-Buk - Pocket-sized Heritage
"Found emaphaketheni ase mzansi since van toeka af"
Zam-Buk wanted to celebrate over 100 years of being one of South Africa’s most iconic brands. Our idea stemmed from us asking ourselves a simple question, where do most South Africans keep their Zam-Buk? In their pockets. And what else have South Africans had in their pockets over the past 100 years along with their Zam-Buk?
We then sourced over 100 distinctly South African pocket-sized items that were around during certain eras. We picked the best few out of the lot that we felt really stood out and were recognisable and quite nostalgic.
After that, we handcrafted a bespoke typographical treatment with an authentic Mzansi street style feel to it
from scratch to bring our copy line to life. The copy line, ‘Found empakhatheni ase Mzansi since van toeka af’,
Meaning; ‘Found in the pockets of South African’s since way back’, is a mix of different SA languages
(Zulu, English and Afrikaans). This way of speaking is known as tsotsi-taal. Writing the line this way showcases
what a rich melting pot of cultural diversity our country is and how Zam-Buk is a proudly South African product loved and used by everyone.
