Visuals of Genealogy

Visuals of Genealogy is a thesis project about the history and future of how we document ancestry.

The book is divided into two main parts: the first part discusses the history of the visual documentation of ancestry, while the second part is a case study that explores different ways that genealogical data can be interpreted.

The case study uses data about over 2000 individuals that stem from one Scottish family of 15 that immigrated to North America in the early 1800s. The data was meticulously transferred from old documents to digital spreadsheets where they were then graphed digitally.
