Batman 366 - Cover Homage
This is a cover homage of one of my favorite comic book covers of yesterday.
I have never quite liked the Joker... I always thought he was just a so-so enemy of Batman that just got more fame than he deserved as a character, so I always avoided reading comics where he's the main antagonist.
Having said that, his attire does make for some of the best comic book covers ever, since his bright colors are a complete contrast of Batman's normally muted colors. In fact, without the Joker in this cover, I doubt there would be a clear center point in it at all!
It took forever to "vectorize" this cover but it was oh-so-very worth it... I just love figuring out how to keep the integrity of the original and still add the round cuteness that I like working with.
Enjoy!

Here's the final cover in all its glory. I love drawing the Batman when he wears the oval symbol!

The Joker close up. I am especially proud of Joker's face... how do you maintain a certain amount of cuteness while still showing him as the bad guy? In this particular case I focused on the pointy nose and gave him a fire-like pointy hair, to show his evilness.
Here's the pencil work. I try to be as tight as possible in the pencil stage. The clearer I am during this stage, the faster it is to replicate in vector (mind you, the building took FOREVER to finish, what with all those lines...).
