Horses are a potent symbol of the free spirit. They can carry carry you over obstacles and run like the wind - riding a horse is the next best thing to sprouting wings! To me, creating and viewing horse images is a powerful way to remind ourselves of the qualities of strength, grace and beauty within our own souls.

I work in primarily in transparent watercolor, which means I rely on the white of the paper for the lights in the painting. This requires both planning and intuition! :-)

Asian Wild Horses

I painted this from sketches I did at the Minnesota Zoo. I've always loved this primitive - looking species of horse. It is also called Przewalski's horse; I was very glad to learn that it's also correct to say "Asian Wild Horse." That, I can pronounce!
