St Euphorius is a dark brew developed by the talented brew artists of Silverado Brewing Company located in California's Napa Valley. I used to frequent this brewery while I attended college up in Napa Valley. To keep close relations, I donate time to do some fun illustrations to show my appreciation for making my college career memorable.
I'm drawn to playing cards. I don't know why, I'm not much of a gambler and I can barely play texas hold'em. There's something whimsical in the duality of a playing card. It definitely has its medieval roots with a heavy dose of superstition. I remember my 6th grade teacher dabbled in card reading and she'd keep us all enthralled by trying to tell us our future.
The art of playing cards gives me a lot of room to work in. As long as I can keep a rotational symmetry, use at most 2 colors and utilize an emphasis in lines and dots, I can get away with something that at least eludes to a playing card. The use of pattern, geometric shapes and the human form also intrigued me. They don't necessarily work together, but because we are so used to it, we just accept that these blocked out shapes contain the torso of a jack or king. Also, normally it is the joker that gets most of the illustrative attention. That needs to change.
Charles Dodgeson writes of a Queen of Hearts. This is not her. The role of euphoria in this card is to contrast with her sibling illustration St. Lucifer.
