UNDERSTANDING THE LIVES OF ELDERLY

This project was an attempt to understand the lives of elderly people, with photography as a medium. I crossed paths with quite a lot of senior citizen during this time, most of them didn't want to be captured on camera, but they all had so much to say. Interacting with each one of them and listening to their stories made me realise one thing- how we are all the same, going through our own unique hardships, fighting with mental health, and surviving; all hoping to become the best self and finally old somehow- someday.

I admit that if it was not for my grandfather's recent demise I wouldn't have tried reaching out to them, and I wouldn't have thought of visiting an elderly home to meet those incredible souls- all waiting for somebody to visit them.

I wanted to connect with people like my grandfather at that point of time, to feel closer to him somehow, indirectly shaping this project.

Everybody I met treated me like their own,

and spoke to me with love,

and made me feel like they were all proud of me- just how my own grandfather would have made me feel.

I miss him, and I missed my chance to take his picture, and a chance to understand him.
