凤冠霞帔 Phoenix Coronet with Embroidered Robe

This oil painting from class Art 13 is a continuation of my exploration on "revelation". The message I tried to deliver in this artwork is cultural identity. My inspiration comes from the picture that my mom and I took together in a Peking opera style costume when I was really small. The painting incorporates the traditional Chinese dressing "phoenix coronet with embroidered robe" that only women in supreme position could wear and elements from Peking opera which emphasizes the focus of culture. The reason I tried to deliver this message comes from my personal background that I grew up in China and my family immigrated to the US three years ago. For me, only if I could understand my own culture can I embrace more of different cultures. Thus, the Chinese cultural identity is the nobility I tried to depict in this painting.
