This is my woodrow. It is a specialty musical instrument made by craftsmen in Asheville, North Carolina. It is designed to be easy to play and to carry around. It produces a light, beautiful mountain string sound.
Here are some of my sketches. I included a few ideas to try to make my illustration as unique, interesting, and informational as possible.

This is my first WIP for this project. I had tried to draw the images flat and then convert them to 3D using Illustrator's isometric tools. However, it did not turn out right. The angles did not look realistic. I decided to essentially start over for my next draft.
This is my second WIP for this project. I drew the images at the angles I wanted and they turned out much better. I spent a lot more time creating very detailed gradients so that the lighting looked realistic and the objects looked truly three-dimensional. The colors did not come out the way I wanted when I converted it to JPG.
This is the final version of my illustration. I made a few edits from the WIP2. I decided to add a subtitle under the name of the instrument to give people a little clarity about what it actually is, because I assume most people have never heard of this before. I also changed all the background colors to be pure cyan and tones of black. When I saved the image as a JPG, it still distorted the colors a bit, but when I converted the colors to RGB they were more satisfactory. I also made the music at the bottom of the page a bit smaller so it wasn't falling off the sides of the image.
One way this illustration could be utilized is in an academic setting like a university in the music department.
I imagined that my illustration could be used as an infographic/advertisment in a magazine or catalog related to music. On the back side could be more practical information about where to buy it, etc.
