LEGEND Theatrical Identity Program

Based on the 1989 fantasy movie of the same name, Legend is conceived as a theatrical show somewhere on the spectrum between Broadway and Cirque Du Soleil. With complex choreography, special effects, music, puppetry and costuming, it would be a unique, spectacular experience structured around a classic fairy tale formula of the struggle between good and evil.

The poster series focuses on the three main characters, highlighting their archetypical nature. The illustrations—and the show’s logo—were created by compositing public domain vintage illustrations, primarily woodcuts and engravings. Each figure is made up of parts from 6-12 different origin illustrations; the logo is between ten and fifteen. But the show is not completely old-fashioned, or archetypical, though those are the framings, so color breaks the boundaries with bright, bold, messy watercolor textures.
I also applied the dark vs light  theme to a double-sided show program booklet and to packaging for souvenirs: Princess Lily’s jewelry, which is significant within the plot of the show.
