Josu Basterra Gilabert

Josu’s parents already knew our work for so long so when they commissioned us the design of his Communion card, they imagined that we were going to try something different. Looking for documentation on the celebration, we came to the conclusion that the most important thing of that day is that the child receive the Communion for the first time, so that was the idea from which we started working.

What we wanted to do was to convert the card in a Sacred Host like the one Josu would receive. Hence, we choose a round format. On one side we embossed the name and surname of Josu as in the Hosts. For the data, that was in the rear, we want something simple and that wasn't going to downplay the main part. Looking for documentation images, we realized that many of the real Hosts’ borders are decorated with small edgings so we use a calligraphic typeface to try to convert the text into a decorative circle. When we print it in gray it gaves to the card the needed touch of color to differentiate from the background without being overemphasized.
