Angels in America -
A cover for the play "Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes,"
the 1993 Pulitzer Prize winning play, written in two parts by American
Playwright Tony Kushner. It has been made into both a television miniseries
and an opera by Peter Eotvos.
The play is set in New York in 1985, during the beginning years of the AIDS
crisis. It can be seen as a critique of the response to (or the ignoring of) the
AIDS epidemic in America and the homosexual community during the Regan era.
In the play Kushner writes about the idea of stasis versus change, which was a
direct response to the state of the American Government during the period he
wrote the play.
