GRANITE FRONTIERS: A CENTURY OF YOSEMITE CLIMBING

GRANITE FRONTIERS: A Century of Yosemite Climbing
The Autry
Originally produced by the Yosemite Climbing Association, this exhibition temporary exhibition introduces visitors to the free spirits, vagabonds, and visionaries of one of the West's truly wild experiences. The exhibition combines historic videos, artifacts, and photography with first person accounts of the evolution of the sport of rock climbing in the Yosemite Valley.

The Autry reimagined the exhibition experience and designed new casework and graphics for this 4000 sq. ft. gallery evoke the environment of the Yosemite valley and life under and on the walls. Experiences in the gallery allow visitors to hear personal accounts of climbers in the valley, handle a rack of gear, and learn the terminology of climbing. Handleable elements included ares to test climbing techniques, feel the weight of a gear bag, place equipment, and climb into a hanging portaledge.
