Each year, 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in our seas and oceans. That is a fact which a lot of people did not know but is shocking for everybody. Contracorriente was born in order to spotlight the problem: a quarterly newspaper with desire to give voice to all those people, associations and / or organizations that are devoted to find the solution to clean our seas and oceans from plastics.

This first issue is dedicated to Boyan Slat, a young man who has attracted attention of great scientists and world politicians with his invention of a system for concentrating and catching plastic debris. If it shows to be effective, it will manage to remove all the plastic from the sea, according to Slat, in only 10 years.

Cada año acaban 8 millones de toneladas en nuestros mares y océanos. Datos que para muchos, hasta el momento eran desconocidos pero que para todos son chocantes. De la necesidad de dar a conocer la problemática nace Contracorriente: un periódico trimestral con la voluntad de darle voz a todas aquellas personas, asociaciones y/u organizaciones que dedican todos sus esfuerzos en lograr dar con la solución para limpiar nuestros mares y océanos de plástico. 

Este primer número va de la mano de Boyan Slat, un joven que ha logrado la atención de grandes científicos y políticos del mundo por la invención de un nuevo sistema de retina de plástico que si consigue ser eficaz, según Slat, logrará retirar todo el plástico del mar en tan sólo 10 años.
