This article - and interview - tells the survival story of Pascal Hakizimana during two wars, one genocide and five international escapes during his journey between Burundi (starting in 1972) and Costa Rica (arriving in 2016). This story shows an extraordinary survivor who is still hurt by the memories he shares but still fights to be recognized and obtain a citizenship for himself and his family. This story helps understand the weight migrants carry throughout their journeys. Published in English in The Tico Times on February 16th, 2017. The design is based on the original illustration by artist Diego Fournier.
Esta reportaje y entrevista narra la supervivencia de Pascal Hakizimana durante dos guerras, un genocidio y cinco escapes internacionales entre su recorrido que inició en Burundi en 1972 y que lo llevó a Costa Rica en 2016. La historia es la de un sobreviviente extraordinario, a quien aún le duelen los recuerdos que comparte pero sigue luchando por una ciudadanía para él y su familia. Esta historia ayuda a dimensionar el peso de las maletas que los migrantes traen encima. Publicado en español en Contexto el 26 de enero de 2017.
