The ladies of Interior Castle, Emma Fradd & Joanna Grennan, always have a great vision of what they want and from there it was easy to bring it to life. We started by taking a look at a couple of different fonts that conveyed the 80's feel they wanted.
I focused on the Sandoval font, and created a custom type for "Interior". We also demoed with Disco Night but it didn't capture Interior Castle's vision. The client really enjoyed the combo with Mr Dafoe for "Castle" so we combined it with the custom Sandoval type to come up with the Interior Castle type.
Two popular trends in the 80's: triangles and bright colours. We took those themes and added in a nice castle to create the logo. I made 2 colour variations and 2 aesthetic variations that they could use in any future projects.
The ladies of Interior Castle contacted Ted Prescott because they had fallen in love with his sculpture of the Annunciation. With his express permission I built the album around this eerily inviting sculpture. The album was to be printed on a 3 panel - 1 pocket CD cover. All of the thank you's and lyrics had to fit on to the inside 3 panels since a booklet was not an option.
The front cover needed no text. The beautiful, eerie work of Prescott's sculpture made for an album cover that would stand out on its own. Prescott made two variants of his sculpture where the angel was glowing (which we used for the front) and one where you can see the frame wiring of the angel (which we used for the back).
