TRAKTOR ADAPT Concept MIDI Controller

TRAKTOR Adapt Concept
MIDI controller for Native Instruments Traktor DJ software
Building on Native Instruments'successful Kontrol X1, the ADAPT concept aims to be the next generation Traktor MIDI controller; taking advantage of current technology to be easily personalised; and cater for all users' preferences and DJing styles.

All buttons, dials and controls are mapped to the DJ's personal preferences; with the front face then labelling all mappings utilising a protected LED interface. To control the track, the ADAPT features a touchscreen, allowing direct manipulation of the waveforms; or for DJs who prefer the tactility of rotary track control, surrounding the touchscreen is a neoprene-coated ring, providing manipulation of the track as per traditional CDJs and MIDI Controllers.

ADAPT is designed for Native Instruments Traktor software, but since all MIDI controls are independantly mapped and labelled to software functions, ADAPT can be also easily configured to be the perfect accompaniament to other DJ software such as Serato, Ableton Live, etc.

N.B. this design is purely conceptual, no endorsement from Native Instruments GmbH.

A potential setup featuring two Adapt controllers. Because the Adapt features a visual display, the controllers take the laptop's position as a central component of the DJ's interface, thus providing a far better view of his/her audience, and eliminating the widely-despised 'DJ checking emails' look...
An element of feedback from the sotware to the controller is the chosen track signal (either playing or cueing). ADAPT features a large touch screen, to display the wave patten as the track is playing, and also allowing the DJ to scroll, scratch, pause, etc. with their fingers - as if using a mouse and computer screen. This means that the DJ can see and directly manipulate the track as it is playing, without taking his/her eyes and hands off of the controller. In addition, the touch screen is recessed, to provide greater protection against damage (and accidental tweaks of the track) during performance and transport.

For DJs who prefer the tactility of traditional rotary track control, surrounding the touchscreen is a neoprene-coated ring, providing command of the track as per regular CDJs and MIDI Controllers.
DJs can choose from pre-loaded map sets (e.g. more loop based, more effect based, etc.) or create new control mappings. The ADAPT recieves signals from Traktor as to which buttons and dials are assigned to which functions, and automatically labels each control (with default or user-defined labels) using the LED-backlit LCD screen beneath ADAPT's main surface.

The colour and brightness of the labels and background can also be chosen and optimised by the DJ to suit different playing environments and conditions e.g. for sunny outdoors, dark clubs, etc.

The LCD main surface is protected by a 2mm-thick glass sheet, that can be easily removed and replaced if damaged (i.e. causing visibilty of labels to be impaired).
