BOMBARDIER FLEXITY 2 - Gold Coast, Australia

BOMBARDIER Flexity 2 LRV
Light Rail Vehicle interior for Gold Coast, Australia
Designed for a brand new light rail system on the Gold Coast; the contract was awarded to Bombardier in 2011. Bombardier's new FLEXITY 2 design was customised specifically for the environment and people of Queensland's premier coastal city; and Australia's ultimate holiday destination.

The design optimises passenger comfort and durability of components; taking into account the high temperatures of this region and sandy environment. Usability by disabled and wheelchair-users is maximised, with 100% low-floor design; wide thoroughfares with hand supports; and high-visibility components. Another customisation for this vehicle is the weathershield design that integrates surfboard storage, to accomodate the Gold Coast's huge surfing population.

Interior design characterises the bright, joyful and relaxed atmosphere of the Gold Coast
To begin the design process for a new public transport vehicle, it is essential that the location is investigated - it's people, culture, environment, architecture, etc.
Concept sketches, exploring aesthetic themes, shapes and contours; keeping in mind passenger usability and assembly constraints
The interior of the vehicle was designed to complement the exterior 'wave' styling - (exterior concept was completed by other members of the design team)
