High-performance bicycle brake lever
The Transformer lever was designed to be the finest BMX brake lever in the world; for professional riders who rely on their bicycles to perform at the highest level. The Transformer was the first CNC-machined BMX brake lever on the market; and due to careful design detailing, is only half of the weight of most levers.
As opposed to standard cast brake levers, the Transformer is fully CNC-machined for maximum precision - meaning brake components fit exactly, to minimise friction and eliminate ‘brake wobble’. The profiles and thicknesses of the design have been refined to provide riders with superb braking power and strength; whilst retaining an extremely low weight. The lever has been simplified to better suit BMX riders, with unnecessary components such as the barrel adjuster and spring eliminated, while thinner wall thicknesses are utilised where possible to remove unnecessary weight.
Extensive testing has ensured that the lever’s contours provide grip and comfort, whilst still aesthetically attractive.

While functional requirements are fundamental for this product to be successful, appropriate style and attractive aesthetics are also crucial. It was essential that the market and culture was researched, and the resulting Colony products are visually fitting and invoking a tough B-M-X emotion.

Final design rendering
To minimise costs, this product is manufactured in Taiwan, thus it was essential that required features, tolerances, etc. were communicated. Required by manufacturers were complete 2D engineering drawings as well as 3D STEP models of each component.
