Bienvenido Cruz's profile

Process and Creation

Ueda Shōji (1913–2000) was a Japanese photographer whose most famous works were shot on the sand dunes near his home in Tottori prefecture.  The surrealist landscapes inspired Peter Lindbergh's iconic work for Comme des Garçons in the 90s, which in turn inspired me in my formative years. I travelled to White Sands National Monument in New Mexico not only to pay homage to these masters but to experience the process of the work. The title of this series is taken from the 2014 book, Shoji Ueda: Process and Creation, published by Seigensha.
