Anne Geddes
Anne Greddes was born on September 13, 1956 in Queensland, Australia

Anne’s portraiture business thrived, and in 1990 she decided to take one day a month to explore her inspiration and create an image purely for herself in order to maintain her artistic drive. One image from these personal shoots was “Rhys and Grant”, twins who became known as the “Cabbage Kids”; still one of her most recognized photographs around the world.

Anne taught herself photography through the creation of her own personal style which developed from a unique style to an art form. Her style has helped make her a world renowned photographer of babies and children, often portraying them as animals, fairytale creatures or flowers.

After moving to Auckland, New Zealand, with Kel her husband, who launched the first commercial television network in New Zealand in 1988; Anne set up her first official studio. Anne’s first ever photograph to be published was in a local New Zealand magazine. This feature on Anne and her photography created an interest in, what was seen to be at the time, a very different style of portraiture.
Anne Greddes is a self taught photographer. She began creating holiday photographic cards for her family and friends. This led to her launching a customized greeting card business.

In her autobiography, Anne details her difficult relationship with her early life on a cattle farm. Eventually, at age 17, she dropped out of high school and moved away from home.

Just like Apple and Google, Anne got her start in a garage. In 1986 Anne set up a small studio, reclaiming an old run-down garage at the back of their garden.
In the following year, inspired by reading bedtime stories full of fantasy characters to their daughters, Anne began to envision a fairy tale told through photography which lead to the creation of her first large-format, coffee table gift book "Down in the Garden".

Annes technique was seen as a very different style of portrait. She creates images that are iconic, award winning and beloved. Like no photographer before, her imagery singularly captures the beauty, purity and vulnerability of children embodying her deeply held belief that each and every child must be “protected, nurtured and loved”.

Annes Geddes photos make me feel peaceful and calm.it also makes me feel like humans are apart of nature. I like her work because it incorporates babies and nature coming together as one.

Anne has created The Geddes Philanthropic Trust it has raised over $5.7 million dollars and is used to help prevent child abuse and neglect in countries around the world including Australia, New Zealand, France, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Anne is know for a different style of portraiture which combines babies and nature becoming one.

I like Anne Geddes work because she adds a new way to do portraits by combing babies and nature into one.
